Main Street Mount Vernon and the Mount Vernon small business community is proud to take part in Small Business Saturday, also called “Shop Small Saturday,” on Saturday, Nov. 25. Created by American Express in 2010, Small Business Saturday is a day dedicated to supporting small businesses nationwide. Celebrated every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, the day has given small businesses across the country a huge boost.

“The shopping experience enhances the joy of giving and many local companies also cater to the online shopper," states Carol Grubaugh, Executive Director of the Knox County Chamber of Commerce. "Local commerce recirculates a greater portion of revenue back into the community. It is beneficial to shop local throughout the year to make a more vibrant community."

Many of our downtown businesses will be open extended hours and have promotions and sales. Small business owners and customers alike can encourage their friends to shop small in Mount Vernon. Everyone can help spread the word about Small Business Saturday, especially via social media using #ShopSmall. The more people and businesses that get involved, the bigger and more beneficial the day will be for Mount Vernon small businesses.
