The “Downtown Rock Around” will take place on the final Saturday in November in correlation with Small Business Saturday.  Founded by American Express in 2010, Small Business Saturday is a day dedicated to supporting small businesses and communities across the country. In partnership with the Mount Vernon Music and Arts Festival and the City of Mount Vernon, Main Street Mount Vernon looks to create a day full of family activities at select businesses downtown, while at the same time creating excitement for the upcoming holiday season. The square lighting ceremony, sponsored by Park National Bank, will take place at 5:30pm and immediately following, the Mount Vernon Music and Arts Festival will present a special holiday set from a local musician.  

Main Street Mount Vernon is in close contact with Knox Public Health and is working on the best plan to keep our community safe for the Downtown Rock Around on Saturday, November 28.  From 10am to 5pm, participating downtown merchants will have child friendly holiday themed ideas to complete in store, or to take and complete at home. After completing your downtown holiday shopping, head to the square at 5:30pm for a special lighting ceremony sponsored by Park National Bank, followed by a holiday set from a local musician.

We ask that all attendees practice social distancing while downtown, and wear masks if you are inside or within six feet of others not from the same household. Masks will be available for the square lighting ceremony, and in an effort to limit excessive contact, customers are encouraged to minimize handling merchandise unless they plan to make a purchase.

Annual Membership Meeting

The Annual Membership Meeting is a great opportunity for the local businesses and organization to discuss key issues within the Central Business District, distribute important information regarding Main Street Mount Vernon, and vote on new board members and bylaw changes, if needed. In doing this, we maintain transparency by keeping members informed on the status of Downtown Mount Vernon. An Annual Meeting of the Members is required to take place each year according to the bylaws of Main Street Mount Vernon. The bylaws outline when the annual meeting will take place and what is required of the annual meeting.

This year, the Events Committee has decided to make the transition to a virtual platform for the 2021 Annual Meeting!  More information is to come as planning progresses.  Check back in rgularly for more details!
